Bye-bye Saturn Vue, OR The Importance of Selling Your Car Right Away.
So, yesterday I discovered that the Saturn’s breaks were frozen AGAIN (guess that’s what happens when your car is not driven for a month and left to sit outside). Called the tow truck, had it towed to the dealership, asked for a trade-in quote. Was hoping for $4,500. Was offered $3,000 because according to them the car is basically worthless – breaks need replacing, there is rust on the engine, etc, etc. (Yeah, right. I don’t believe them for a moment, but it’s not like I have any choices when I can’t get the car out of their lot without forking out more money, now do I?) We finally agreed on $3,500. I will pick up the check today. Oh well, our own damn fault.

What a bummer. We’re going to have the same problem getting rid of the Jeep. Had a big repair/towing over the summer, only to find it wouldn’t start again after having it back home for a month. It is sitting, dead, in the driveway. Should’ve just traded her in when we got the Honda. Now we’ll have to tow again, repair and then sell. I feel your pain!!
I am sure car dealers are making more money on all the trade in than they are with new car, especailly with them having to shrink their margins on new cars.
