I knew it was coming…

Published by at 1:41 pm under The Daily Grind

…but that does not make it any easier. My parents asked me to email them some pictures of the kids for my grandma to see, the implication being she will not get to see them in person again. Grandma is slowly dying. According to the doctors, there is nothing they can do. She may live another year, but that is unlikely. Her liver is failing; she has metastized cancer. Grandma is 85 years old, and had told me a number of times that she is ready (and wants) to die, that life has become a burden to be endured, that there is no joy left. Death, for her, will be a relief. She may be ready, but I cannot imagine my life without her in it.

It is hard to let go of people we love. But be glad she got to meet them. By the time my grandfather passed, he thought the baby pictures of Rowan were of me. Thinking of you!

I’m sorry. My grandma passed away in January. Thanksgiving is coming up and I actually forgot that she wasn’t going to be there. It’s hard to lose someone who is a fixture in your life. I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers. We’ll talk soon!
