I really did not need to know this
Somewhat paraphrased statement from my boss, who lost his job in the “great pruning exercise of 2009″:
“You should do everything you can to keep your job. Over the past few years, [the guy who will now be my boss] has repeatedly asked if your position is needed. I kept telling him it is strategic, and needed. Maybe I have lost my job by not nominating your position to be cut, but I know I made the right decision.”

That totally sucks!
Oh well. On the plus side, if they do another round of layoffs, I will know 100% that my job will be gone, and can get a head start on looking for another job. On the minus side, if ex-boss thought this little tidbit of information was going to motivate me instead of totally wreck my day, he was wrong…
What a stupid thing to say.
He thinks he is being helpful. And it IS good to know, but I wish he had told me that a long time ago.
