Grace in Small Things – 1xx/365 & 1xx/365 (04/30 & 05/01)
(Day two of de-lurking. Stealth mode appears to be working. I will be messing around with numbering as I fill in the missing posts.)
- Getting to work at a reasonable time.
- Making some progress on the important (and over a week late) survey.
- Being able to work late to catch up on stuff.
- Everybody fell asleep in their own beds on Friday night, while I sang Russian songs to them.
- Kids behaved well for Peggy’s wedding.
- There was a playground by the church, so Sergey and Xavier had something to do when they got bored sitting inside.
- Beautiful spring day.
- All three boys playing together at Humboldt Park.
- Xavier’s happy dirt-covered face.
- Going for a nice walk at night, while the kids clonked out in the strollers.

1. I have so far managed to avoid sunburn, despite spending 4+ hours in the sunniest part of the day with minimal shade on Saturday.
2. I can use an umbrella when it’s sunny here, and not have people ask if I’m aware that it isn’t raining.
3. Said umbrella, strategically tilted, can hide the fact that I’m foreign from a passing truckload of migrant workers, thus sparing me a truckload of “Halloooo!”s.
4. I have a really nice bicycle here, which I will try to use more often before I have to say goodbye.
5. Vehicles here are actually aware of bicyclists and drive around them.
6. Plus, the major streets have major bicycle lanes.
7. The lilacs along the main street are blooming.
8. I think the baby magpies have hatched, because the parents seem busier these days.
9. The trees in the courtyard are leafing later than usual, so we have a good view of the magpie nest.
10. It looks like it might rain this afternoon (I’ll believe it when it actually happens, though the fact that I washed the filthy outside of my windows this morning may help :-)
1. Spring seems to be sticking around this time
2. I’m 15.4 pounds lighter than I was 2 months ago
3. Beth only weighs 26lbs 13 oz
4. Beth is walking everyone (to the point of throwing a fit if you try to carry her)
5. After Monday, I have three days off with no kids and no hubby for the first two, and no kids for the third. Bring on the projects
6. The moving of Beth to Alex’s room seems to have been successful.
7. Girl’s Night with Olya this week
8. Bangkok House Thai food (much better than the Chinese place near us)
9. Zumba
10. Saturday morning playgroup (and the nice adults there)
Ooh…Thai food! Can’t get that around here!
