Good news
Husband got a job offer. Assuming everything goes well, I will pick him up in Chicago on July 4th, and he will start on July 6th. While I am (obviously) ecstatic and very happy for him, a little part of me is going to miss being on my own. Will have to try and get a lot more things done before Sunday!
Today my cousin called me just as I was getting ready to leave work, and we ended up talking for an hour and a half. I took the opportunity to exercise and walked while we talked. So, on the plus side, I got some exercise; on the minus side, I did not head home until 7 pm. Things accomplished:
- Got an oil change for the Jetta in the morning. Found out I needed to replace the timing belt 10K miles ago. Timing belt costs $700 to replace. Was hoping they were exaggerating on the necessity, but apparently not so – timing belts go quickly and without warning, and take the engine with them. Eeek. Then found out that Husband got a job offer, so now we will have money to do it. Scheduled for Wednesday.
- Submitted FSA Dependent Care and Health Care reimbursements paperwork.
- Picked up some more size 4 Pampers at Target. They have a deal this week – if you buy two 100-count packs for $30 each, you get a $10 Target gift card. I also had manufacturer’s coupons for $2 and $3, and a $5 Target gift card from long ago, so I did end up saving some money. Tomorrow, back to Target to get Centrum vitamins and a spray bottle of OxyClean. I spend my gift cards on such exciting things!
- Picked up two books that I had on hold at the library. One of them is Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Because the books are so popular again, it is due back in a week. I better find some time to read :-)
- Went to Walgreens and finally got the issue of double-paying for MiddleOne’s fluoride medication resolved. They refunded one of the charges.
- Went through OldestOne’s and YoungestOne’s clothes that are hanging in the closet. As a result, another load of stuff with stains is enjoying a leisurely soak (and a bunch of dirty winter coats is keeping them company).
- Packed up kids’ winter coats (big bin), infant warm clothes and Halloween costumes (long bin), and baby gear items like sling, car seat cover, etc (another long bin).
- Hung up all the fall/spring coats and vests (18 months and up) in the study closet.
I look at the lists of things I got done, and yet the house looks like I had barely done anything. Discouraging.
In other news, I finally finished my hearty bean soup today. Tomorrow, tilapia and rice! Also, must remember to drive minivan to work, since I am dropping it off for an oil change at Gordy’s.

You do have a lot of stained clothes!
My list of accomplishments:
1. Returned 2 books and 1 DVD to the library and picked up 1 book that was on hold. Was expecting it to only have 1 week, but got 3 weeks. Which makes no sense because it’s the next one in the series and I only got 1 week on the last one.
2. Drew sidewalk art in chalk with Beth.
3. Opened up the sandbox for Alex.
That’s it. Did start reading new book since the kids were both good after dinner last night.
Congratulations, Bill! So is he leaving the kids in Russia to be picked up later, or is everyone coming home early?
I’m almost packed and praying it’s under the weight limit. At least I get a chance to redistribute in Beijing after I find out in Yinchuan how much they weigh, since I’ll have to pay in Yinchuan regardless (domestic weight limit is 20 kg total, and I’m WAY over that).
And for my last full day in the desert, guess what, it rained all day! So farewell to the mountains didn’t happen, but I got a lot of other stuff accomplished.
And how on earth did it get to be 10:20 already, when it was only 9:30 about 5 minutes ago??
Karen, the kids are staying with grandma and grandpa :-)
Hope you luggage is under the weight limit!
Even if it doesn’t LOOK like you’ve made a dent, I’m am SUPER impressed at all you’ve gotten done! Now, how can I arrange my own time without kids and husband to get stuff done?! :) Congrats on Bill’s job too! I’m sure that will relieve a LOT Of stress from your life on many fronts!
Congrats on the new job, and congrats on being productive!
Shan and Fam are going to be here in 2 1/2 weeks, and due to a bed shortage at Mom’s house I am staying at my other half’s house, and Jenna is going to be in my room. My list of accomplishments for the week:
1. Paid for my background check required for college. $85 to prove, after 2+ years of enrollment, that I am in fact NOT a criminal and am eligible to continue with my program.
2. Straightened out the snafu with my financial aid application, and enrolled in fall courses.
3. Packed winter sweaters and hoodies, extra blankets, and all the random decorative/kitchen crap I’ve bought to furnish the house I don’t yet own.
4. Did two loads of laundry. One is folded and put away, the other is still drying.
5. Starting on packing my old textbooks the school wouldn’t buy back and the school supplies that are cluttering up my bedroom.
6. Sorting general clutter into keep and donate piles to be dealt with accordingly.
